Floods lead to fast track for BSF in Hull

The severe flood damage across Hull and East Yorkshire last year has prompted Hull City Council to fast track plans to renovate and build schools in the area under the Building Schools for the Future scheme.

The council was able to negotiate an accelerated building and maintenance program with the Department of Education due to the severity of the damage caused to schools by the floods.

Work on eight out of ten of the schools named in the £200 million Hull BSF program will be brought forward.

As part of the Building Schools for the Future program three new academies and three secondary schools will be built. A further four schools will undergo significant re-development.

The whole of the Hull area sits on a flood plain and all new schools will be now built with raised floors in order to help prevent further flood damage.
